Ohio CCW Permit Statistics

County Sheriff’s Offices across our great state issued 168,302 concealed-carry licenses in 2018. Of those, 98,927 were renewals, an increase of 83 percent from the year before, and 69,375 licenses were new, a 10 percent decrease. Denials were rare — 1,436 in total, for a rate of 0.9 percent. Under Ohio law, County Sheriffs are responsible for issuing concealed-carry licenses and renewing them, as well as suspending and revoking licenses. Every quarter, the Sheriffs report those statistics to the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission, part of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.
